Rant: Had to pick between hashtags or engagement groups for 3 months straight

I chose engagement groups and gained 200 followers in a week, but none of them actually cared about my content. My videos got 0 comments after the group boost ended. Has anyone else dealt with fake engagement groups that feel helpful at first but totally ruin your algorithm?

Those 200 followers were just bots or people who joined the group and followed everyone without even looking at your content. The algorithm sees those empty engagement signals and punishes you harder than if you had just grown slowly with hashtags.
