Can we talk about people tagging 47 hashtags and thinking that helps?
I watched a friend in Portland post the same cute coffee photo twice last month, once with 47 hashtags and once with 4, and the 4-tag version got 3x the reach in 24 hours. Turns out stuffing tags makes the app read your post as spam and it never shows it to real people, which is why her 47-tag post died at 22 likes. Has anyone else tested tag counts side by side like this, and what number actually works for you?
I mean the "47 hashtags and thinking that helps" thing hits way too close to home because I used to be that person. Every single post I'd sit there typing out #coffee #coffeetime #coffeelover #coffeegram and on and on until my thumb hurt, thinking I was gaming the system. Then I looked at my own stats and my 30-tag posts were getting like 15 likes from the same 15 bots while my lazy 3-tag post randomly pulled in way more real people. I even did the sad little test where you post the same thing twice and yeah, the tag bomb one just sat there like a rock. Now I keep it under 5 and my stuff actually gets seen, who would've guessed. My old self really thought I was outsmarting the app when I was basically just talking to a wall.
