I finally tried the 50/30/20 budget thing my coworker swore by, and it flopped for me
My coworker Dana in Tampa kept telling me to split my paycheck 50/30/20, so I tried it for 2 months and kept running out of money by the 19th every time because my rent alone eats 54%. Has anyone made this work when your fixed costs are already past half your take home, or did you just tweak the percents?
Percents are just a starting point, not a rule you have to follow. When rent eats 54% of your check, the split has to change based on what's actually left, not some formula that assumes cheap housing.
