I finally caved and bought the $12 rotisserie chicken instead of cooking, and my grocery bill actually dropped
Last Friday I stood in the Kroger aisle for like 10 minutes doing math on my phone. I could buy a raw whole chicken for $7 and roast it myself, or grab the hot one for $12 and skip the whole mess. I went with the $12 bird and used the meat for three lunches plus a soup, so it worked out to about $1 per meal. The raw one would have been cheaper per pound but half of it would have gone bad in my fridge like last time. Does anyone else factor in the stuff you throw away when comparing prices, or am I just bad at using leftovers?
