That 2003 laptop I revived with a $8 PCMCIA card

Last month I dug out my dad's old ThinkPad from a plastic bin in the garage. The battery was toast and the hard drive clicked like a dying cricket. I threw in a 32GB compact flash card and a $8 PCMCIA adapter from eBay, and the thing boots in under 3 minutes. Ran Windows XP off it just to see if it would survive, and it actually handles old office software fine. The catch is the wifi card only supports WEP, so I keep it on a separate network with no internet. It's become my dedicated machine for playing DOS games and burning CDs for my truck. Has anyone else brought a relic back to life just to avoid buying a new printer or scanner? The USB 1.1 ports are the real bottleneck, that's what I'm fighting now.

Ever tried picking up a USB 2.0 PCMCIA card for like $10? That kills the bottleneck and makes file transfers actually bearable.
