Skip the $300 data recovery place on 6th Ave, my freezer trick got the drive spinning for 20 mins
My buddy's Seagate from 2012 died with his wedding photos on it and the shop on 6th Ave quoted him $300 to even look at it. I told him to seal it in a ziplock with two silica packs and leave it in the freezer overnight instead, then pull files fast before it warms up. We got 14 gigs off it in about 20 minutes before it started clicking again, and he only paid me in a six pack. Has anyone else had the freezer buy them enough time to pull a full drive, or does it mostly just work once?
My roommate did the freezer thing on a WD drive and got most of his music back, but it only worked the one time before it was done for good. Make sure your buddy backs those photos up somewhere else now instead of hoping for a round two.
