I told my brother his 2011 Toshiba laptop was junk, then we swapped the drive and it beat my new one at boot
My brother dug his old Toshiba Satellite out of a closet in November and I laughed at it, told him a 13 year old machine running Vista was a paperweight. He grabbed a $22 SSD off a deal site, cloned the drive over a Saturday, and that thing now boots to a Linux desktop in about 14 seconds. My 2021 laptop takes almost 40. The part that got me is everything still works, the keyboard, the screen, even the battery holds about 90 minutes. Ngl I felt a little dumb standing there watching a laptop from 2011 load faster than the one I paid $800 for. Now I keep eyeing the pile of old machines at the Goodwill in Tacoma and wondering how many just need a $25 drive. Has anyone else brought a machine back this way, and did you hit any weird driver issues after the swap?
