Hit 1,000 downloads on a 15 year old podcast app last week

I run a tiny podcast about old video game soundtracks. Nothing fancy, just me talking about chiptunes for maybe 20 people. Last week I checked the stats and my feed was still getting pulled into this ancient app called gPodder from like 2009. Turns out it hit exactly 1,000 downloads through that one app alone. Kinda blew my mind since the app itself is basically abandonware. Has anyone else found a weird old piece of software that still gets more traffic than you'd expect?

gPodder is still out there? That's like finding a rotary phone in a landfill that still gets calls. 1,000 downloads for chiptune talk through a zombie app is pretty funny, guess the old school listeners never got the memo to upgrade. Maybe abandonware is the secret to internet fame, who knew.

Ha, yeah @grant_perry you nailed it. I actually still use gPodder for an old synthwave show that somehow stopped updating on every other app years ago... it's like a little time capsule that still works. The whole "abandonware" vibe is wild, half the time I'm just hoping the thing doesn't crash mid-download. 1,000 listeners on a dead app is kind of impressive honestly, shows you there's a whole hidden audience out there just doing their thing while everyone else moved on.
