Tried fabric pots over plastic nursery pots this season and my cherry tomatoes exploded

I saw a video from a community garden in Oregon where they tested fabric pots against regular ones side by side. They claimed the roots in fabric pots didn't get root bound and actually seemed to grow thicker. That made me wonder about the temperature thing too because I read somewhere that fabric pots let the soil breathe better and stay cooler in hot weather. My own cherry tomatoes in plastic pots always seem to struggle around August when it gets really hot here. I switched half my peppers to fabric last year and the ones in fabric definitely looked happier with less drooping on those 90 degree days. Still haven't tried tomatoes in them though so your post is making me reconsider for next season.

That Oregon garden video is the first time I've heard someone actually measure the root thickness difference, did they say how much thicker the roots were? Ngl the temperature thing makes total sense to me because plastic pots basically turn into little greenhouses in direct sun. Honestly wondering if the fabric pots help with that August slump because they let excess heat escape instead of trapping it in the soil.
