That one week last July when my cherry tomatoes all split open right before I was going to pick them

I lost about 20 tomatoes in 3 days because I got excited and overwatered them after a heatwave, has anyone else dealt with split fruit from inconsistent watering on a balcony setup?

My buddy Steve grows tomatoes on his fire escape and he had the same thing happen last year. He got all excited after a dry spell and dumped a whole watering can on them, next morning half his cherry tomatoes were cracked open like little wounds. He was so mad he just sat there eating the split ones with salt straight off the vine.
