Shoutout to my neighbor who told me to stop overwatering my balcony tomatoes

I was killing my cherry tomatoes for like 3 months last summer. Kept wondering why the leaves were turning yellow and dropping off. My neighbor from downstairs saw me dumping water on them every morning and finally said "you're drowning those things, give them a break." I cut back to every other day and within 2 weeks they perked up. She said balcony plants dry out slower because they're not in the ground with good drainage. Has anyone else gotten bad advice from a garden center employee that messed up their plants?

3 months of drowning those poor plants and the leaves were basically screaming for help. I can't believe you kept at it that long, most people would have given up after a month of yellow leaves. Your neighbor sounds like a real one for finally stepping in though, not everyone would bother to save your tomatoes like that. I swear half the advice from garden centers is just "water more" because they want you to buy more plants when those die. Learning that balcony drainage thing the hard way is brutal, I killed a whole herb garden that way once because I thought the pot had enough holes.
