Pro tip: my tomato cage collapsed after that storm last Wednesday
I had three roma tomato plants going strong on my 4th floor balcony in Portland, and then a gust of wind just flattened the whole cage. The plants snapped clean at the base on two of them. I ended up rigging a support with some old bamboo stakes and zip ties, which is holding for now but looks pretty janky. Has anyone tried those heavy duty cone cages for a windy balcony?

Oh man, I feel your pain. My cherry tomatoes on the fire escape in Chicago got crushed last August when a storm rolled in off the lake. I tried those cheap cone cages and they just bent right over in the first real wind.

Did you try those heavy-duty tomato cages from the hardware store instead? @wrenwilson, I had the same problem last year with my peppers, and upgrading to the thicker wire ones saved them through a couple of storms.
