My tomato plants kept getting knocked over for a whole month

I couldn't figure out why my potted tomatoes on my 4th floor balcony kept tipping over, even on calm days. Turns out, the plastic pots I reused from last year had tiny, clogged drainage holes, so water pooled at the bottom and made them top-heavy. It took me four weeks and three broken stems to finally drill bigger holes in the sides of the pots. Has anyone else had pots that just won't drain right?

I always blamed the wind, not the pots.

That "blame the wind" thing reminds me of a friend who lost his grill lid off a deck. He swore it was a freak gust, not the cheap latch. Classic @johnson.lee move.

Did you ever check if that lid was actually designed to pop off in high winds as a safety feature? Some grills have a release mechanism that looks like a broken latch but is meant to prevent the grill from tipping over. @johnson.lee blaming the wind instead of the pots is funny, but it could be the manufacturer's fault for not putting a warning sticker on it. I've seen lids fly off in moderate breezes because the latch was too weak for the weight of the metal. Sometimes the real problem is the design, not the user guessing at the cause. That cheap latch might have been a bigger issue than any gust.
