My neighbor's comment about overwatering finally clicked

I was watering my cherry tomatoes every single day until my neighbor in 3B said they looked droopy and pale. She told me to stick my finger in the soil first and only water when the top inch is dry. I switched to every 3-4 days and within 2 weeks the leaves perked up and I got my first flowers. Anyone else have a simple tip from a neighbor that changed their whole routine?

Hell yeah, that finger trick is the real deal. I was drowning my basil last summer until my gardener neighbor yelled at me from her stoop. She said most people kill plants with love, not neglect. Now I just check the weight of the pot too if it feels light when I lift it, it's thirsty. Also helps to water in the morning so the leaves dry out before night. Your neighbor saved your tomatoes for sure.

Overwatering is basically smothering things with love in disguise.
