My balcony tomato cage choice was a total fail

I had to pick between a cheap, flimsy cage from the big box store for $8 or a heavy duty one online for $25. I went cheap to save money, thinking my cherry tomatoes wouldn't get that big. Wrong. After about two months, the whole thing bent over in a light wind and snapped. Lost three plants and a bunch of green fruit. Should have just spent the extra cash from the start. Anyone have a good, sturdy cage brand that won't break the bank?

My neighbor uses old wire fencing from a farm supply store and cuts it into big circles. It looks a bit rough but it's basically indestructible and costs almost nothing.

my buddy did the exact same thing last fall. he grabbed a roll of that heavy gauge cattle panel from tractor supply for like 30 bucks. he just bent it into circles and tied the ends with some old zip ties. first big storm we had i thought for sure theyd collapse but nope they held up perfect. his tomato plants were totally fine while my fancy store bought cages were all bent sideways. the rough look actually grew on me after a while, gives the garden a cool rustic vibe.

Gardencraft cages are solid. Worth the extra cash for sure.
