Hit 50 pounds of cherry tomatoes from 4 plants. Totally changed my mind about container growing.

I used to think balcony gardening was just a hobby. Something to kill time. But last summer I grew 4 cherry tomato plants in 5 gallon buckets on my south facing balcony in Chicago. By August I was picking 3 pounds a week. By the end of September I had pulled over 50 pounds total from those tiny buckets. That number shocked me. It made me realize you can actually grow serious food in small spaces. I stopped treating my balcony like decoration and started treating it like a real food source. Has anyone else been surprised by their actual harvest weight?

Wait, were those determinate or indeterminate tomatoes?

@parker_campbell they were indeterminate. Sungold and a random red variety I got from Home Depot. I honestly didn't even know the difference before this grow. I just stuck them in buckets and hoped for the best. But now I'm a total convert. 50 pounds from 4 buckets on a tiny balcony is REAL food production, not just decoration.
