Spent 6 months trying to get my sourdough starter right

I started my starter back in January, fed it every day, kept it warm, did everything the blogs said. It would bubble a little but never doubled in size. I tried different flours, changed the water, even bought a fancy thermometer. After 6 months of flat loaves, I found out my tap water had too much chlorine. Switched to bottled water and it took off in 3 days. Anyone else have a dumb simple fix that took forever to find?

My tap water was the exact same problem. I spent 4 months thinking I was just bad at baking, then a neighbor mentioned his starter died until he switched to bottled water. Felt like an idiot for not trying it sooner.

Wait, you're telling me my tap water might be the problem this whole time?
