My sourdough starter hit 100% rise in under 4 hours and I'm not sure I trust it.

I've been feeding the same starter for about a year now, and it usually takes a solid 6 hours to double. Yesterday, after a normal feeding with bread flour and filtered water, it ballooned way past the rubber band mark before lunch. This feels like a win, but maybe the kitchen was just too warm. Has anyone else had a starter suddenly get super active like this?

Is your starter having a midlife crisis?

Mine just started buying tiny leather jackets and listening to classic rock. @amy858, the real crisis is when it demands a sourdough sports car. Mine's currently fermenting in the garage, refusing to rise until it finds itself. Pretty sure it's about to get a bad tattoo.

My starter did the same thing last spring and I thought I had accidentally created a super yeast hybrid. @taylor929 I worry my starter is having an identity crisis too because it keeps acting like it wants to run a marathon after years of being a couch potato. Maybe I should just accept that my kitchen hit the perfect temperature zone and my starter finally decided to show off.
