My $60 Silicone Bread Slip Mat Turned Into A Dough Disaster

I bought a fancy silicone mat specifically for kneading artisan dough about 2 years ago, thinking it would be non-stick magic. That mat shifted and slid all over my counter so bad my dough ended up on the floor after 5 minutes of work. Anyone else have a mat that just refuses to stay put during kneading?

Oh man, I used to think those mats were totally worth the hype but after mine slid across the counter and launched my dough into the sink I flipped completely. A wet paper towel underneath is the only thing that saved me from trashing it.

Tell me this - was it one of those silicone ones with the smooth backing or the grippy textured kind? I ask because I had the smooth one and it was basically a slip-n-slide for bread. My wife bought the textured one from a different brand and it actually stays put pretty well, but I still put a damp towel under it because I'm traumatized from that time my cinnamon roll dough ended up in the cat's water bowl.
