A messy measuring cup incident changed how I store my baking stuff

I thought having all my baking stuff in one bin was fine. Then I made a cake and used a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon for baking powder. It tasted awful. So I got separate containers for each tool. Now my baking is much better, and I find what I need fast.

Oh man, I read that chefs do something similar called "mise en place" where they set everything up before starting. Makes total sense why it helps.

Watched my mom cook without any setup and burn half the meal.

I get why you see it that way, but mise en place feels overrated to me. Some of the best cooks I know just grab things as they go. Having every little thing measured and set out can kill the natural flow of cooking. It turns it into a chore instead of something fun and changing. For a lot of home cooks, that strict setup adds more stress than it saves time. Why do we act like there's only one right way to do things in the kitchen?
