That 'laptops will replace desktops' article from 2008 still makes me laugh

I remember reading an old PC World article around 2008 that said laptops would completely kill the desktop market by 2015. I was skeptical because I was building my own gaming rigs at the time. Now here I am in 2024 with a laptop that does almost everything, but I still built a custom desktop for heavy lifting. The article got the timeline wrong and missed that desktops would stick around for power users. Anyone else still running a desktop for specific tasks despite the laptop trend?
