That 1999 article predicting we'd all have flying cars by 2020 still cracks me up

I was cleaning out my dad's garage last month and found this old tech magazine from December 1999. The cover story was all about how by 2020, we'd be commuting in personal flying vehicles and our kitchens would have robots cooking dinner. My dad worked as a mechanic back then and he actually circled the flying car section and wrote 'hope this happens' in the margin. Fast forward to 2024 and I'm still sitting in traffic on I-35 near Austin for 45 minutes every morning just to get my oldest to school on time. The only flying thing in our house is the dust bunnies when I move the couch. Meanwhile my smart fridge keeps telling me the milk is expired but it can't even order a new one. Has anyone else run into old predictions that aged this badly or is it just my family holding onto this stuff?

Whoa wait, your dad actually wrote 'hope this happens' in the margin? That's both sweet and super depressing at the same time.

Yeah I read somewhere that people who write in their books tend to remember the content way better. Makes you wonder what other little scribbles are hiding in those old pages. @leo238 your dad sounds like he had a lot of hope riding on that one.
