That 1999 article about email killing paper mail has me rethinking my own takes

I used to laugh at old predictions until I found a 1999 piece saying we'd have paperless offices by 2005. But then I looked at my own hot takes from 2016, like drone delivery replacing trucks in 2 years, and realized I'm the same kind of fool. Anyone else catch themselves making the exact same mistake the experts made?

...and honestly that's the part nobody talks about enough. We all think we're smarter than the old predictions because we have hindsight, but tomorrow is just as foggy as 1999 was. The thing is, we build our predictions on what we know today, and we always forget that the future is basically a surprise party where we never know the guest list. I catch myself doing it all the time with stuff like smart home tech, thinking this year it'll finally all connect, and then it doesn't. It's like we're all standing on the same beach, watching the same wave come in, and each generation swears they finally figured out the tide. So yeah, we're all the same kind of fool, just with better gadgets.
