Serious question, that 1997 article saying the internet was just a fad still gets shared around here right?

I came across an old Business Week piece from '97 claiming the internet would never replace shopping malls or catalogs. It's wild to read now because they interviewed actual CEOs who doubled down on that take. I mean, I can order a bidet attachment from my phone while sitting on a subway in Chicago. Has anyone else dug up a prediction that just makes you laugh out loud at how specific it was?

Man that Business Week piece is just brutal to reread now. I get secondhand embarrassment for those CEO quotes every time someone brings it up. Hits different when you're literally using the thing they said was pointless while reading their old take on it.

Yeah @evan151 it really is something else. I just had to screenshot one of those quotes and send it to my old team. We had the same thing happen with a different tech article back in 2017. Just laughed about it over drinks later.
