Read a 1999 article that said "the internet is just a fad" and changed my whole approach to web marketing in 3 days
The writer predicted nobody would ever buy groceries or cars online, and that made me rethink how I see new platforms like social media when they first pop up. Has anyone else found an old bad prediction that actually helped you spot a real trend later?

HOLD UP though. What if that 1999 guy was actually RIGHT about groceries and cars, and we just forced those online sales to happen anyway? The margins on grocery delivery are TERRIBLE, most places still lose money on it, and I bet a lot of people who bought a car online still went to kick the tires later. Sometimes the hot new thing is just a way to sell you ads and tracking data, not an actual market shift. I remember when everyone swore MySpace was the future of music, and look what happened there. Maybe the real skill is knowing when to IGNORE the hype and focus on what actually works for normal people.

Yeah, @fisher.diana, you're probably overthinking this.
