Old 1994 article said we'd all be using video phones by 2005, we finally caught up
My uncle dug out a PC Magazine from 1994 last weekend and it had this piece predicting video calls everywhere within a decade, which obviously didnt happen on schedule. Then my cousin in Phoenix facetimed us from her car while her kids argued in the backseat, so I guess the tech finally showed up, just 20 years late. Anyone else got a vintage prediction that eventually came true but in a totally different form than anyone expected?

Laugh at how those old predictions always assumed we'd be sitting in front of a big screen in a dedicated room, not yelling into a tiny camera while stuck in traffic. My sister video calls me from her laundry room while folding towels, and half the time I just see the ceiling fan spinning. The 1994 folks probably pictured polite business meetings, not kids picking their noses on camera and grandparents muting themselves by accident. We got the tech, but we also got the messy reality of people forgetting they're on camera. Guess that's what progress looks like when real humans get ahold of it.
