My old boss swore cloud computing would never catch on for serious business apps

Back in 2009 at a small accounting firm in Tulsa, my boss told me putting financial data on the 'internet cloud' was just a fad and we'd all be laughed out of the industry. Fast forward to last year, and that same firm paid me to migrate their entire server setup to a cloud platform because their on-prem hardware kept failing during tax season. Why do people get so stubborn about tech changes that end up being obvious winners?

I remember back in 2012 I was sure cloud storage was just a gimmick for techies. Then my friend ran a small real estate office and moved their client files to the cloud after their server crashed and lost everything. That hit me hard because I thought I was the smart one sticking with physical backups. But after seeing how fast they could access stuff remotely and how the cloud provider handled all the security updates, I realized I was wrong. Those early horror stories were real, but the tech has come a long way since then.

2003 had my uncle running an IT shop and he told everyone cloud storage was a security nightmare waiting to happen. He had this client that was a small dental practice and they used some early cloud billing software and got hacked twice in six months. All their patient records got leaked and it was a total mess. So I get why people are skeptical when companies say cloud is more secure than on-prem. Plus look at all the AWS and Azure outages that still happen, your data is down until they fix it. Cloud has gotten better but it's not like everyone was just being stubborn for no reason back then.
