Grandpa laughed at my WiFi thermostat - said his 1950s Honeywell never needed an update

Visited my grandparents in Ohio last weekend and my grandpa saw me adjusting the temperature on my phone. He walked over to his old round Honeywell dial thermostat, twisted it, and said 'Mine works every time and I didn't have to pay $30 a month for it.' I started explaining smart scheduling and remote access and he just chuckled. Then he pointed out that his thermostat has lasted 67 years without a single software patch. Got me wondering how many of our 'smart' gadgets will even be functional in 20 years, let alone 60. Anyone else have a family member who makes you question modern tech?

Respectfully man, you can't compare a hunk of metal that turns a dial to a device that literally learns your schedule and saves you money on energy bills. Grandpa's Honeywell is solid but it's also just a switch with some mercury in it, not exactly rocket science.
