Grandma said the home computer was a fad in 1998, and I just found the tape she made about it
I was going through boxes at my mom's place in Dayton last weekend and found a VHS my grandma recorded off the local news in 1998. There's a guy on there saying the home computer is a fad that will blow over in 5 years, and that nobody needs one in the house when the library has them for free. My grandma taped it because she agreed with him and wanted proof for later. I sat on the floor and laughed for 10 minutes straight. My whole job now is remote work on a laptop, so that prediction aged about as well as milk. What's the worst tech take you've ever found saved on an old tape or clipping?
The line about "nobody needs one when the library has them for free" is the best part. That guy probably thought the internet was a place you had to drive to. Meanwhile my worst find was a newspaper clipping my dad saved saying cell phones would never catch on because "why pay for calls you can make from home." I kept it and now I text him from the checkout line just to be annoying.
