Finally admitted my old PC was not worth saving

For years I kept upgrading my 2007 Dell desktop thinking I could squeeze more life out of it. Put $150 into a new power supply and another $80 on RAM, but it still crashed every time I opened more than two browser tabs. Last month my neighbor showed me his $300 refurbished office PC from 2021 that ran circles around mine. That's when I realized I was just throwing money at a dead end. Anyone else hold onto ancient hardware way too long?

Had a 2008 machine myself. Kept telling myself it was "retro." It was just junk.

@david821 gets it, that "retro" excuse is just how we lie to ourselves about sunk costs. The real trap is that incremental upgrades feel productive but you're just polishing a turd, spreading out the inevitable over years instead of facing it. What nobody mentions is the hidden cost of wasted time troubleshooting crashes and reboots that could have been spent actually using the damn computer.
