DAE remember when a guy at work bet me $20 in 1998 that nobody would ever shop online?
He told me at lunch in Dayton that credit cards on the internet would never be safe enough and stores would always win. I brought it up at his retirement party last month and he just laughed and pulled out his phone to show me the 14 packages on the way to his house. What's the old prediction you still get to bring up at family dinners?
My grandpa swore up and down that cable TV would kill off movies at the theater, and he said it with such a straight face that we still quote him every Thanksgiving. The funny part is nobody talks about the reverse prediction, the ones the "experts" got wrong in the other direction. My favorite is all those people in the 90s who said the paperless office was right around the corner, and here we are printing more stuff than ever because half of us can't figure out how to scan a signed form. What gets me is the predictions people never had to eat their words on because everyone just quietly forgot them. Your coworker at least had the guts to laugh about it.
