An old Popular Mechanics from 1967 predicted we'd all have jetpacks by 1990

Still waiting on mine while my Roomba gets stuck under the couch for the third time this week, anyone else feel ripped off by the future?

Oh man, I feel you. I'm still waiting on my flying car and instead I've got a fridge that beeps at me because I left the door open for four seconds too long. The future promised us The Jetsons and gave us a robot vacuum that's scared of a rug fringe. At least in 1967 they thought we'd be zipping around, not arguing with a machine about whether it can fit under the coffee table. I guess we all got sold a bill of goods somewhere along the line.

1967 though? Man, that's wild to think about. I was born in 1970 so I barely remember that decade but my dad used to talk about how they'd show these cartoons with robots doing everything and people just lounging around. Now I'm standing in my kitchen yelling at my smart speaker to turn off the timer while my fridge beeps at me like it's personally offended. The weirdest part is how we all just accepted this stuff. I mean, who sat in a boardroom and decided that a fridge needed to police how long you hold the door open? That's just bizarre.
