A guy at the Boise library said my 'future of the web' ad clipping was cheating, so I redid my whole board
I run the little display case at our library in Boise and I had a 1996 Newsweek clipping up about how nobody would ever shop online. A retired teacher named Walt stopped me and said the easy ones are cheap laughs and I should show predictions that smart people actually believed. So I dumped half my board and rebuilt it around a 1993 Wired piece about how the internet would die from too much traffic by 2000. Now the teens actually stop and read it, which was the whole point. What old clips do you keep coming back to that people forget were wrong?

My grandpa kept a whole shoebox of old newspaper clippings and one of them was from 1981 saying home computers would never catch on because nobody wants a typewriter in their living room. He'd pull it out every Thanksgiving and wave it around while my aunt yelled at him about the turkey. After he passed I found the box and there was a sticky note on that one that just said "told ya." Still have it taped inside my toolbox lid. Funny how the wrong guesses tell you more about the time than the right ones do.
