That $15 pawn shop keyboard I grabbed for nostalgia turned into a whole rabbit hole
Yesterday I saw a beat up 1998 Dell keyboard at a pawn shop in Austin for $15 and bought it just to hear that old clicky sound again. Got it home, plugged it in, and realized my laptop has no PS/2 port, so I spent 2 hours hunting for an adapter that actually works with USB. Turns out the cheap ones on Amazon don't support old boards, and I ended up ordering a $40 active converter with good reviews. Now I'm wondering if the sound is even worth this hassle, or if I just miss typing on something that feels like a typewriter. Has anyone else gone down this path for a vintage keyboard, or am I the only one dumb enough to fight with adapters for a nostalgic clack?

Did your friend ever tell you about the time he did almost the exact same thing? He found a beat up IBM Model M at a flea market for like 20 bucks and was so pumped until he got home and realized his setup had no PS/2 either. He went through three different adapters before finding one that worked, and by then he'd dropped almost 50 bucks total on the whole thing. Last I heard it's sitting in his closet now because his wife got tired of the noise. So yeah, you're not the only one who's been down this road, but at least you know the sound is real and not just in your head.
