My 14 year old nephew wrecked my view on cloud gaming with one sentence at a birthday party
Last Saturday at my sister's place in Toledo my nephew was playing some shooter on his phone and I made a joke about how cloud gaming is never gonna replace a real console. He just shrugged and said he already plays every game he owns that way on a 4 year old Chromebook and hasn't bought a disc since 2022. I pushed back hard, brought up input lag and that one time my stream froze mid boss fight, but then he showed me his whole setup and it was smoother than I wanted to admit. What got me was how little he cared about owning anything, no shelf of games, no swapping discs, just tap and play on whatever screen is closest. I've got about 40 physical games collecting dust in a closet that I keep telling myself I'll replay someday and I think I've touched maybe six of them in the last two years. Now I'm sitting here wondering why I've been so loyal to hardware and boxes when a kid with junk hardware is having more fun than me. So is this just an age thing or am I actually holding onto an old way of doing things for no good reason?
