Got burned paying $200 for a 'lifetime' cloud backup service

I bought into one of those lifetime cloud backup deals about two years ago. Paid $200 upfront for what they said was unlimited storage forever. Worked fine for maybe 6 months, then they started throttling my speeds to basically nothing. Then they changed the terms so only 1TB was allowed, then they just shut down entirely last month with a 2 week notice to download your files. I lost about 300GB of photos and game saves because I didn't get to it in time. Now I'm sitting here paying $10 a month for Backblaze like I should've done from the start. Has anyone else had a lifetime service pull the rug like that or did I just pick the worst one?

You said they gave two weeks notice, was that enough time for you to actually get your 300GB out?

Two weeks notice for 300GB, that's like asking you to outrun a turtle while carrying a fridge.
