An editor told me "kill your darlings" and I ruined my game's opening level
I was working on a platformer for like 8 months and had this super detailed intro where you crawl through vents and read emails. A beta tester said it was boring and to cut it. So I deleted the whole thing and started the player right in the action with a jump and a boom. Now nobody skips the intro but I still miss those emails sometimes. Has anyone else over corrected on feedback before?

Keep the emails as optional collectibles hidden in later levels.

Did you ever read that thing about how game developers call that stuff "lore delivery" versus "gameplay"? Sounds like your emails were just in the wrong spot... maybe tuck them into a break room or something later on.
