That $6 thrift store DVD player saving the night is the real story here. Reminds me of a camping trip where our portable speaker died and a buddy pulled out this ancient battery powered CD player from his trunk. We all laughed at first. Then we ended up listening to the same three burned CDs for like four hours because nobody had a better idea. Old tech just refuses to quit when you need it most. That DVD player probably outlived half the fancy stuff in that room.
