Mystery Science Theater watch party hit a wall with a 4 hour cut

I picked up a bootleg director's cut of The Room at a flea market in Austin last weekend, thinking it'd be a laugh. We got 2 hours in and my buddy fell asleep, then the DVD froze during the third sex scene and we just gave up. Has anyone else tried a marathon of a so-bad-it's-good flick and found the extra footage just kills the fun?

Did you try pausing for a snack break and then coming back fresh? For us, cutting it into 45 minute chunks with a little riffing in between kept everyone awake and laughing. That whole suffer-through-it approach just doesn't work once the movie starts dragging.
