Why does nobody warn you about zip ties on thick cables?
I spent a solid 4 hours last Tuesday rerouting my home theater setup in Portland, and the whole thing hinged on these 12-gauge speaker wires. I cinched them tight with zip ties like I always do, but then the bass started cutting out. Turns out the ties were crushing the insulation and shorting the connection inside. It took me two more hours and a multimeter to figure it out. Has anyone else had this happen, or am I just the only one dumb enough to over-tighten?

Over-tightening is a real thing, but it's usually the cheap nylon ties that bite in. I've seen it on network cables too, not just speaker wire. You're not dumb, you just learned the hard way like the rest of us.
