Warning: that velcro tape from the dollar store WILL fail on you

I spent an hour last Sunday tidying up the rats nest behind my desk, used that cheap velcro tape I got at a discount store in Nashville. Three days later I came home and my monitor cable was dangling off the side of the desk again because the adhesive gave out. Has anyone else had that stuff just peel off in a hot room or am I the only one who tried to save three bucks?

Command strips are actually a different thing than velcro though. The cheap dollar store stuff is just hook and loop tape with a weak adhesive backing, while Command strips use a special stretch-release adhesive that holds way better. I learned that the hard way when I tried using both on the same cable management project. Ended up with the command strips still holding strong and the velcro tape sliding off my desk leg after two days. For cables that don't get moved around much, the cheap velcro works okay if you clean the surface with alcohol first and give it 24 hours to set. But yeah, dollar store adhesive is garbage in any kind of warmth or humidity.

Oh man, I feel your pain. I used that same dollar store velcro to stick a power strip to the underside of my desk and it literally fell off in the middle of the night, woke me up when everything hit the floor. The adhesive feels like it's made of old gum or something. I ended up just using command strips instead, they cost more but at least I don't have to redo it every three days.
