Took 45 minutes to untangle one HDMI cable, should I just cut and resplice?

I finally got brave enough to tackle the mess behind my TV stand in Des Moines. The problem was one HDMI cable that had somehow wrapped itself around three power strips and a coax line from 2019. After 45 minutes of slow pulling and swearing, I got it free, but my neighbor swears cutting and resplicing is faster. Which side are you on, patience or the scissors? Has anyone actually pulled off a clean HDMI splice without killing the signal?
