Power strip gave out after 4 years behind my desk, whole setup went dark
My surge protector finally bit the dust last Tuesday. The switch literally stopped clicking and none of my monitors would turn on. I had like 8 things plugged into it including my PC, speakers, and lamp. Took me 20 minutes to untangle all the cables behind my desk to swap it out. Now I'm thinking about getting a bigger one with individual switches since that mess taught me something. Has anyone else had a power strip fail on them out of nowhere?

Blew a power strip last year myself and my PC shut down mid-game. Lost an hour of progress in a dungeon crawler and my roommate still brings it up. I had 6 things plugged into this old cheap strip from like 2015 and it just started smoking one day. Now I'm that guy with a massive surge protector bolted to the side of my desk like it's a security system. At least you didn't have to explain to your landlord why the hallway smelled like burnt plastic.

Wait, didn't I read somewhere that old power strips can actually start fires if the internal parts degrade over time? Ngl, bolting that surge protector to your desk sounds like a solid move after what happened.
