My office desk went from rat's nest to tidy in one weekend

I finally got around to fixing the cable mess behind my desk after three years of ignoring it. Used a bunch of velcro straps and a cable tray I found on sale for 15 bucks. Has anyone else had their desk setup feel way more productive after cleaning up the wires?

Honestly? I used to roll my eyes at people who said cleaning up cables made them more productive. Seemed like one of those fake productivity hacks people post for likes. But then last month I actually did it after my cat got tangled in a charging cable and knocked over a drink. Spent maybe two hours with zip ties and one of those under desk trays. Weirdest thing happened, I actually felt less stressed sitting down to work the next day. Like my brain was less cluttered somehow. Still can't really explain it, but I get it now. That little bit of visual noise was bugging me more than I realized.

@sage_perry, you're mostly right about the visual noise thing, but I'd say it's less about productivity and more about not having to wrestle with cables all the time. I've got a little experience with this from when I worked in an office and the IT guy said the tangled mess under desks caused more heat buildup and static issues. Also, cable management is a safety thing too, like you found out with your cat. Once I tidied up my setup, I noticed my space heater and fan weren't getting blocked anymore, so that was a bonus. You've got the right idea, just don't believe all the hype about it making you twice as fast or anything.
