Why does nobody talk about the morning my Barred Rock laid her first egg in the feed bucket

I went out at 6am to top off their crumble and there it was, sitting right on the pellets like she'd planned it. My old flock took two months to get the nesting box figured out, so has anyone else had a pullet just skip the box entirely and pick somewhere weird?
