Tried putting a kiddie pool in the run for the heat wave

Filled it with just an inch of water and some ice cubes, thinking they'd wade. All three of my Orpingtons started drinking from it like a giant bowl and ignored their regular waterer for two days straight. Anyone else have their birds totally ignore the 'right' equipment for a simple fix?

My Orpingtons did the same thing with a frisbee full of water last summer.

Oh man, chickens are such weird little dinosaurs. My neighbor's flock will stand in a pie tin after it rains and just stare at their own feet. They find the most random stuff to fixate on. A frisbee of water is totally on brand for that kind of weird chicken logic.
