That $40 solar waterer was a total waste

Picked up a solar heated waterer from Tractor Supply thinking it would save me trips in the winter. Froze solid after the first real cold snap when the battery gave out. Anyone find a cheap water heater that actually works below 20 degrees?

Did they test that thing in a freezer set to 32 degrees and call it a day? I swear these companies slap a picture of a snowflake on the box and call it winter proof. My first cold snap hit at 10 below and that heater just gave up like it was allergic to actual cold. Now I got a heated bucket from the farm supply that costs about the same but actually keeps working when the temp drops. That $40 solar one is basically just an expensive bird bath that gives up when you need it most.

Oh man, that is so frustrating. I feel like this happens all the time with stuff marketed as "winter ready" or "heavy duty" - it just can't handle the real cold we get. It's like companies test things in mild weather and call it good.
