Switched from straw to pine shavings in the coop and I'm a convert
I always used straw because it's what my dad used, but after 3 months of dealing with moldy spots and mites last summer I finally tried pine shavings. The smell is way better and the girls seem to kick it around less, so the nesting boxes stay cleaner. Anyone else have a preference between the two for deep litter?

Oh man, that reminds me of the time I caught my old rooster trying to peck at a stray straw stalk that was sticking out of a nesting box and he got it wrapped around his leg somehow. Took me forever to untangle him and he was so mad. But yeah, pine shavings are way less drama.

Wait, you actually liked switching to pine shavings? I was a diehard straw guy too until I finally tried them last year and honestly you're totally right.
