Spent $80 on a heated water base and it was a total game changer

I got tired of breaking ice out of the waterer every morning last winter, so I ordered a heated base online for about eighty bucks. It plugs in and keeps the water just above freezing all night. The first morning I went out and saw liquid water, I almost couldn't believe it. Has anyone found a good way to keep the cord safe from curious beaks?

What do your birds think of the cord? Mine are OBSESSED with pecking at anything new. I had to run my extension cord through an old garden hose I slit open, then zip-tied it to the fence post. They still try, but the rubber seems to confuse them enough to give up. Total MacGyver move but it worked all last season.

Tried the garden hose trick and my parrots just treated it like a fun new chew toy. Ended up buying that split loom tubing from the auto parts store and threading the cord through that. It's a bit stiffer and they lost interest after a few test pecks. Still have to keep an eye on them because they're stubborn, but it's held up for months now. Your zip tie idea is smart for keeping it all in place.
