Overheard a neighbor say her hens stopped laying after she switched feed brands
She mentioned she saved $6 a bag on that generic stuff from Tractor Supply, but after three weeks she only got two eggs total. Has anyone else seen a big drop just from changing feed like that?

Shake my head at the thought of saving six bucks just to end up with zero eggs. That's like buying a cheap gas station sandwich and wondering why it tastes like cardboard. Those hens are basically on strike, picketing for their old feed back. You think chickens are simple, but they've got opinions, especially about their breakfast. Maybe that generic brand is just crushed up corn flakes and sawdust for all we know. Did she try mixing a little of the old feed back in to ease them into it?

Huh, you really think chickens are that picky? I mean, mine will eat pretty much anything if they're hungry enough, even if it's a little different. I switched feed brands a few months back and didn't notice a difference in egg numbers, just maybe the yolks were a little paler for a week. Maybe the problem wasn't the feed itself but how fast she switched it over.
